Duesseldorf Media Harbour Tram Line

Client: City of Duesseldorf

Rheinbahn AG operates Duesseldorf Light Rail Transit System with 20 LRT lines of more than 150 km length. New lines and further connections are planned for the future, among those a new tram line to the rapidly developing business and recreational area of Duesseldorf MediaHarbour. The existing tram line will be extended from Gladbacher Strasse along Franziusstrasse and Holzstrasse to Kesselstrasse where it will end with a terminal loop.

A new building “Casa Stupenda” has been planned neighbouring the tracks, which resulted in the necessity to revise the existing design documentation and to develop an integrated design solution for the relevant area. For reduction of noise and vibrations, the crossing area has been designed as Light Mass-Spring System (LMSS).

Special design challenge was to plan and perform the reconstruction works under ongoing operation.

Rail&Bus Consultants performed the following services:

  • Elaboration of the new track alignment (design for construction), incl. LMSS
  • Elaboration of the bill of quantities for the track construction
  • Overall project coordination
  • Contracting support
