Re-Design of Tram Alignment at “Ostwall”, Krefeld
Client: City of Krefeld
SWK MOBIL operates 4 tram lines of 47 km length in the City of Krefeld, Germany. The section along Ostwall Street is also served by Rheinbahn vehicles from the neighbouring Duesseldorf, whereas the Rheinstrasse station is the terminal station for the Duesseldorf LRT line. As a result, track gauges of 1.435 mm and 1.000 mm are combined here within one trackway.
The whole area of the Rheinstrasse station including the terminal reversement (only for Rheinbahn tracks) is to be redesigned; the tracks of SWK MOBIL and Rheinbahn are to be shifted due to reconstruction of the station itself. Track connections between Ostwall, Rheinstrasse and St.-Anton-Strasse will also be restructured.
The City of Krefeld awarded the contract for the redesign of the street area including the track alignment to the engineering company Angenvoort + Barth.
As subcontractor, Rail&Bus Consultants is responsible for planning of track alignment and elaboration of the complete design documentation. The scope of the project includes the redesign of tracks aimed at their restructuring and rehabilitation and the redesign of the reversement facility at a new location outside the station area.
The following services were performed by Rail&Bus Consultants:
- Track alignment design, detailed design and design for approval
- Elaboration of the complete design documentation and bill of quantities
